Governance of the Power Platform: Environments, Dataverse, Power Apps and Power Automate
Governance of the Power Platform, which includes Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and Power Virtual Agents, is essential for maintaining control, security, and compliance within your organization.
Default environment routing (preview)
Default environment routing is an advanced governance feature within the Power Platform. It ensures that when new users access make.powerapps.com for their initial time, they are seamlessly directed to their individual developer environments. This setup provides new users with a dedicated and secure space to experiment and create using Microsoft Dataverse, eliminating concerns about unauthorized access to their apps or data. Prior to this feature, a new user was directed to the common default environment. With this setting activated, they are automatically ushered into a workspace akin to OneDrive's personal productivity space. This means users can begin crafting apps and solutions without the initial hurdle of navigating to the correct environment, streamlining the onboarding process.
Dataverse is available in developer environments, and these environments are Managed Environments with the admin settings already preconfigured, such as sharing limits and solution checker. Admins no longer need to worry that their makers are working in the default environment, where their work can conflict with others.
Note: his is a preview feature.
- Preview features aren't meant for production use and may have restricted functionality. These features are available before an official release so that customers can get early access and provide feedback.
- By default, all developer environments created through environment routing are managed.
- Managed Environment isn't included as an entitlement in the Developer Plan when users run their assets. For more information about Managed Environments and the Developer Plan, see About the Power Apps Developer Plan.
- Non-manageddeveloper environments are unaffected by this feature. Learn more about the developer environment and developer plan in About the Power Apps Developer Plan.
